AOPA San Antonio

The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association works with decision makers, provides education for healthcare professionals and amputees, supports research, and aims to strengthen the orthotic and prosthetic profession and improve the lives of its patients. Each year they hold a large exhibition attended by all the biggest names in the industry, and a wide range of smaller companies and start-ups too, and is the best place to find new products, therapies, and networks.
This was the first time SensTrain has been shown at any exhibition and we had a great time! The main aim was to learn more about the US healthcare system and to understand how SensTrain would fit in to it, and to learn whether there were any differences between the care provided to those with PLP in the USA and the UK.
We spoke to prosthetists, surgeons and rehab specialists and all had the same story - They know PLP is an issue for most of their patients, but they don't have any real solution. They know that patients with bad PLP find it more difficult to use prosthetics, have trouble sleeping, working, etc. Most of the healthcare professionals we spoke to prescribe or recommend painkillers, some of them offer mirror therapy or other options, but no viable, affordable, long-lasting solution is available.
When we explained what SensTrain is and how it worked, we were met with real excitement at the prospect of a simple, effective solution that patients can use in their own time, in their own home, and which has none of the side effects associated with pharmaceutical pain management.
