Pushing the Boundaries of Sensory Discrimination Training

Renowned phantom pain and neuroplasticity expert Herta Flor demonstrated the power of sensory discrimination training using electrical stimulation to reduce phantom limb pain. Inspired by this research, we set out to refine and enhance the therapy, making it more accessible and effective.
The Power of 12 Electrodes
We carefully selected 12 electrodes to strike the perfect balance—large enough to cover a meaningful area while ensuring a good fit for a wide range of amputees, including those with smaller residual limbs or below-elbow amputations.
But it’s not just about coverage—it’s about progression. On day one, you start with just two electrodes, positioned far apart. As you improve, SensTrain Neuro-PL's software gradually introduces more electrodes, increasing the challenge and pushing your brain to retrain how it interprets signals and visualizes your body.
The Science Behind 30mm Spacing
Why 30mm? This isn’t an arbitrary choice. Research shows that 30mm is the ‘two-point discrimination’ threshold for healthy skin on the leg or upper arm—meaning that people with above-average sensitivity can differentiate between two stimulation points at this distance, but anything closer becomes indistinguishable.
Reaching Level 6 with the SensTrain Neuro-PL means you’ve developed impressive sensory precision, though it’s not all about reaching the top levels. This is more than just a game—it’s a structured journey, helping your brain adapt, rewire, and reclaim control over your sensory experience.
With each session, you’re not just using a device; you’re actively reshaping your perception and making real progress in reducing phantom limb pain.
